"The fact is, that to do anything in the world worth doing, we must not stand back shivering and thinking of the cold and danger, but jump in and scramble through as well as we can."

“When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.”

For it isn’t enough to talk about peace.
One must believe in it.
And it isn’t enough to believe in it.
One must work at it.

Here's how thinking about death can help you live a more fulfilled life. Consider what a hospice nurse found when she interviewed dying about their regrets in life. They said:

I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.
I wish I'd expressed my feelings more.
I wish I'd stayed in touch with my friends.
I wish that I had let myself be happier.
I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

Weird how thinking about dying can give us renewed direction for life, huh?

“While you, the leader, can teach many things, character is not taught easily to adults who arrive at your desk lacking it. Be cautious about taking on reclamation projects regardless of the talent they may possess. Have the courage to make character count among the qualities you seek in others.”
